What is STEAM?
STEAM is an educational initiative that has been gaining traction since its conception earlier this decade. The approach was first championed by the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) but has since been adopted by educators and institutions much further afield.
An evolution of the widely acknowledged STEM movement, STEAM uses Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics to guide study.
There are numerous benefits to this multi-layered learning process: for example, it exposes students to the creative process, offers opportunities for meaningful collaboration, encourages critical thinking and provides unique problem-solving alternatives.
